| The Senior Counsel, Commercial, collaborates closely with senior leaders and internal clients, acting as a trusted advisor and business partner. Future Talent Pipeline - Senior Counsel, Commercial Location: Houston, TX Job Type: Full time What You'll Do (When Position Opens): Provide authoritative legal advice on complex or ambiguous matters, interpreting and applying company policies, procedures, and regulations. Draft, review, and edit a wide range of legal documents, tailored to diverse audiences. Manage relationships with internal clients, acting as a strategic business partner and deploying resources to support business objectives. Instruct and manage outside counsel and specialists. Recommend and implement changes to policies, processes, and standards to improve operational support and ensure compliance. Monitor, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, and industry best practices, maintaining up-to-date expertise through continuous professional development. Lead or contribute to major and unique legal assignments of significant importance. Integrate diverse information sources and maintain deep knowledge of industry trends to develop strategies for ambiguous and novel legal issues. Develop and deliver clear, compelling communications and presentations to various stakeholders. Build and sustain high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust across the organization. What You'll Bring – (Required Qualifications): Legally authorized to work in job posting country Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school Member in good standing of any US bar 6+ years of experience in energy law or as in-house counsel at a large energy company supporting the Commercial legal organization. Self-initiation on regular and complex assignments. Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and function independently without extensive supervision. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with internal business clients, support staff, and with external resources such as outside counsel and other collaborators. Ability to learn quickly and apply company policies, procedures, operations, and industry practices. Strong individual initiative, discipline and commitment to superior performance and continuous improvement. Communicate complex concepts clearly to varied audiences, support quality assurance efforts, and contribute to continuous improvement across legal and business processes. Ability to work collaboratively with a highly skilled team Compensation Range: This position has a base salary range of $204,600 - $291,500.
