Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for Legal, Regulatory, and Professional Affairs, the Assistant Director, Regulatory Affairs, will support GNYHA member institutions on a diverse range of operational and regulatory subject areas affecting hospitals. Examples of such areas include government regulations and policies concerning hospital administration, infection control, staffing, patient rights, health information technology, and building codes related to climate change. The Assistant Director will be responsible for covering those and other designated subject areas in local, State, and Federal proposed and final regulations and sub-regulatory guidance, such as those issued by the NYS Department of Health and Federal Department of Health and Human Services.

Responsibilities:

With education and guidance by more senior policy professionals at GNYHA, the Assistant Director will perform the following duties:

Monitor local, State, and Federal regulatory and policy developments in designated subject areas
Review and analyze proposed and final regulations and policies, preparing written and oral communications for our hospital and health system members
Help to develop and execute advocacy agendas and actions
Work cross-functionally with colleagues on a broad and diverse set of issues
Provide project management support, including obtaining and organizing information from members and other sources, managing the logistics of convening members and subject matter experts, and maintaining meeting notes and follow-up items

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as public health, public policy, health care administration, or health care management
3-5 years’ experience working in a health care policy or regulatory role in a government agency, a legislative body, or at a health care provider institution
Strong understanding of the health care regulatory framework
Demonstrated ability to analyze regulations and government guidance
Superior writing and oral communication skills
Ability to creatively solve problems and build relationships with GNYHA members, government agency officials, and outside organizations
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy, member service organization
Proficiency with OneDrive, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred Qualification:

Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as public health, public policy, health care administration, or health care management

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000

The salary range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement. When determining exact compensation, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, skills, budget, and internal equity).

Work Schedule: A hybrid model with the expectation to work physically in our office Tuesdays and Wednesdays as mandatory in-office days with a third in-office day at your discretion, in coordination with your supervisor and in accordance with the business needs of your department. This schedule may be subject to change in GNYHA’s sole discretion. This is a full-time position.
