| The organization is seeking an Assistant City Attorney to handle civil cases in federal and state trial and appellate courts, as well as other assignments as needed. The successful candidate must be a member of the Virginia State Bar. This role is responsible for protecting the organization’s legal interests and providing legal services, representation, and advice to officials, employees, and departments. Responsibilities include reviewing legal matters, providing counsel, and initiating or responding to legal actions. Work is performed within a general framework, with methods and sequences developed under general supervision. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to apply legal analysis to solve technical, administrative, and legal problems, strong written and verbal communication skills, and prior trial experience is preferred but not required. Assistant City Attorney Location: Richmond, VA Job Type: Full time Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for protecting the legal interests of the City of Richmond and providing legal services and representation and advice to City officials, employees, and departments. Responsible for reviewing legal matters, providing appropriate counsel, and initiating or responding to legal actions. Working within a general outline of work to be performed and developing work methods and sequences under general supervision. Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses: MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Juris Doctor degree Litigation Experience Preferred LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Admission to the Virginia Bar Licensed to practice law in Virginia Independent admission to the bars of individual courts as necessary (e.g., United States District Court, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, etc.) Twelve hours of continuing legal education annually Compliance with additional requirements that may be established by the City of Richmond An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification Salary: $89,804.00 - $149,975.00 Annually Assistant City Attorney $89,804–$149,975 City of Richmond 82159 |
