PURPOSE OF ROLE
The incumbent will be responsible for providing comprehensive regulatory and commercial in-house legal advice to business development team and corporate business units.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Draft and negotiate commercial agreements
Provide advice to business teams in accord with applicable legal and regulatory framework.
Assist in the development of standard departmental procedures designed to facilitate each of the identified responsibilities, while maintaining appropriate internal controls and involving all appropriate departments and areas of responsibility
Undertake a range of potential research projects to include: compliance, regulatory, commercial matters
Review proposed advertisements and marketing materials (print, radio, TV) to ensure compliance with local laws and Company advertising guidelines.
Address general or ad-hoc commercial legal queries from internal business stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with the Compliance team in ensuring that the provision of services is made in accordance with Anti-Money Laundering requirements in the relevant jurisdictions
Advise and assist with all legal compliance matters, as necessary
Instruct and manage external legal counsel in as directed by supervisor
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school, member in good standing of the bar (CA preferred)
5+ years relevant experience (preferably with law firm and/or in-house counsel experience in financial services)
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Excellent interpersonal skills for working across departments and interacting with management; able to build and maintain good relationships both internally and externally
Ability to work independently, make practical, timely, solution-oriented decisions, while demonstrating superior judgment
Be well organized and have the ability to handle multiple, large and small-scale initiatives
Experience working with international companies a plus
Demonstrated ability to draft clear, professional and legally robust correspondence, contractual documentation, policies and other documentation as required, with appropriate form and style
Excellent organizational skills - able to handle multiple priorities with minimum supervision
Ability to work in a culturally diverse and changing environment
Computer literate – able to use Microsoft suite of packages - Word, Excel and PowerPoint
