As Stemilt’s In-House General Counsel you are charged with assisting the company in a variety of tasks for running the business and a focus on contract law. The In-House General Counsel has an in-depth understanding of the law, as well as knowledge to properly interpret and apply legislation to the work completed by different business areas and departments. Overall supporting our company with projects and providing advice to ensure legal aspects are addressed and risks can be avoided and processes are improved for the day-to-day business. This position supports four thousand Stemilters and it’s required to deliver extraordinary customer service at all levels, in addition, you will provide accurate and timely counsel to management in a variety of legal topics. Exceptional problem-solving abilities are a must.
Additional Responsibilities
Reviewing and assisting with all contracts
Research and evaluate any risk factors regarding new operational decisions
Continuously find ways to improve and develop the advice you are providing
Ensure regulatory filings at the local, state, and federal levels are being completed in a timely manner
Manage and resolve matters that are related to legal and regulatory compliance issues
Design and deliver legal training to different department leads
Work with a team of external counsel as necessary
Maintain all legal records, ensure they are secure and organized
Represent Stemilt in legal proceedings
Give legal advice on policies
Finding ethical solutions to legal matters
Strategizing on how to prevent cases and resolve them in a favorable and cost-effective matter
Drive legal activities within the context of the Stemilt brand
Craft and review legal strategy regarding litigations
Legal filing for the copyright of intellectual property
Create a culture within the team that leads to ensure extraordinary customer service for all team members
Hold self and team accountable and ensure the development of a self-leadership team culture
Contribute to the team and the Company in various other ways when requested or required.

Experience:
5+ years’ experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house legal department
Experience advising management on legal risks and various other issues
Experience in managing multifaceted projects and/or investigations
Experience building and in-house law function
Experience selecting and implementing document management technology
Working knowledge of WA state employment law preferred
Experience in WA state Agricultural law preferred
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree or equivalent education from an accredited institution, and/or related experience, such as a Solicitor Apprenticeship.
Strong reading comprehension and writing skills
Ability to stay productive while working with others as part of a team or individually
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to explain complex legal issues and risks in simplified terms
Highly organized as well as detail-oriented
Ability to multi-task while also prioritizing key projects
Work well under pressure and can meet tight deadlines
Ability to be analytical and handle data effectively, efficiently, and with extreme confidentiality.
