Director, Corporate Counsel (Technology)
Visual Lease (VL) is looking to hire a Director, Corporate Counsel to manage and scale the growing legal department. This position will report directly to the SVP, Finance and will engage with Senior Leadership regularly.
The successful candidate must have deep experience in negotiating complex technology and commercial agreements, be well-organized and detail-oriented, with a proven ability to draft contracts, and handle multiple and complex matters simultaneously. What You Will Do:
•Build and lead a dedicated legal team to support a fast-growing organization.
•Partner closely with our sales, finance, and other business teams on commercial and data protection-related matters, emphasizing the importance of high-quality contracts and privacy adherence while delivering practical and business-minded advice.
•Work with senior leadership to advise on negotiation strategy and ensure the contemplated legal terms will meet business needs over the long term.
•Provide legal guidance regarding contract interpretation matters and general business matters.
•Aid in the development and automation of processes to scale efficiencies in the sales support function.
•Oversee the drafting and maintenance of various commercial and technology-related agreements.
•Review commercial contracts and negotiate with customers, vendors, and partners as needed.
•Respond promptly to legal requests.
•Contribute to other legal projects as required by the business.
Skills & Competencies
•Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
•8+ years of substantive commercial legal experience, with a preference for experience in-house at a SaaS company.
•5+ years of experience managing a team.
•Practical experience in SaaS contracting and an advanced knowledge of commercial, contract and privacy law.
•Experience with regulations that apply to SaaS technologies.
•Expertise in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements typical to the technology sector.
•Experience negotiating contracts with financial services customers is a plus but is not required.
•Ability to work with sales, finance, marketing, and IT teams collaboratively in a growing organization.
•Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while remaining analytical and detail-oriented.
•Ability to own a process from start to finish and implement processes independently.
•Comfortable with live negotiations across from sophisticated customers, partners, and vendors.
•Excellent communication skills and can summarize complex issues for stakeholders across the business.
•Strong client service orientation, with high emotional intelligence and the ability to perform well under pressure.
