General Counsel

The Millennium Hotels and Resorts North America is seeking an experienced General Counsel. The person will serve as the primary legal counsel for the group’s US region to provide efficient, effective and commercially-minded legal counsel to the group and its owned and managed hotels located in the US in an effort to minimize risk and ensure a robust compliance regime.
Together with the Legal Counsel, oversee the legal review of all corporate and hotel level contracts, including supplier and consultancy agreements, development and construction contracts, hotel management agreements, sales and marketing agreements and other commercial contracts
Provide legal advice and compliance training in support of the US procurement, asset management, finance and tax, human resource, sales and e-commerce, technology, risk management and hotel operations teams
Work with the company’s group legal and secretariat department to develop, implement and update the group’s regulatory compliance programmes in the region, including the group’s data privacy, anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and anti-trust/competition law programmes
Advise on day-to-day hotel operational issues, including but not limited to labor and employment matters, intellectual property issues and disputes with guests
Oversee regional disputes, liquor licensing issues and litigation matters in conjunction with Legal Counsel
Negotiate all transactional documentation, with an emphasis on construction, development and design agreements, financing documentation, leases, easements and other encumbrances
Liaise with external regulators, advisors, and outside counsel
Participate in and/or lead large transactional matters, such as corporate and property acquisitions and disposals and joint ventures, including the oversight of legal due diligence and drafting of non-disclosure agreements, letters of intent, purchase and sale documentation and board and committee approval papers
Assist in the development and mentoring of Legal Counsel

Requirement:
J.D. and active license to practice law in New York.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience as an attorney at a hospitality industry or at a law firm with a practice specializing in labor and corporate law.
Litigation experience, with an in-house background preferred
Thorough knowledge of many areas of law relevant to the hospitality industry
Exceptional analytical and legal research capabilities
Ability to speak extemporaneously and communicate information concisely, both verbally and in writing, to personnel at all levels of the organisation
Ability to manage all aspects of small and large projects from start to finish
Excellent technical fundamentals, including client management, drafting and negotiating skills
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and achieve objectives on time in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Must be adaptable and able to obtain a working knowledge of various legal jurisdictions
Good leadership and management skills and experience in mentoring and developing staff
