Novel Remodeling is a licensed and insured general contractor. Novel Remodeling provides remodeling and construction services for local homeowners in and around Los Angeles County.
Job Summary:
The General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer shall ensure that Novel Remodeling Inc employs best practices in all its functions. Must be licensed in California
Essential Functions:
Legal
Management of organizations’ intellectual property.
Risk Management
Identify and assess all organizational risks and establish a risk management infrastructure. Oversee and manage.
Review Corporate principles, policies, limits, standards, guidelines, and other significant procedures established by management to ensure a comprehensive “Best Practices” Risk Management System is in place throughout the organization.
Assist in the design, implementation, updating, and monitoring of the Company’s enterprise-wide risk management framework..
Identify and oversee the legal issues of the firm and provide expert and strategic legal advice to ownership and management.
Examine and create legal agreements, construction agreements, operating agreements, employment agreements, lease agreements, purchase and sale agreements, licensing agreements, vendor contracts, organized labor contracts, etc.
Engage and manage various third-party consultants and advisors including lawyers, regulators, insurance consultants, environmental consultants, etc.
Interpretation of and compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Contractor State License Board regulations.
Must have experience in litigation and court appearances and/or compliance
Handling ongoing litigation cases
Maintain knowledge of NR’s operations and legal documents.
Conduct legal research and review NR’s legal strategy pertaining to potential legal actions.
Handle statutory filings, such as licensing forms, LLC filings, etc.
Oversee and monitor compliance within the organization with respect to CWP ESG policies, capital relationship documents, joint venture relationships, and separate accounts.
Establish, implement, and monitor a Document Retention Plan for the firm and other “housekeeping” and data management functions.
Review and monitor HR-related legal, compliance, and disclosure matters.
Maintain the company compliance with EDD and labor law.
Review and monitor CSLB cases.
Meet CSLB personnel to resolve complaints.
Meet with Home owner's legal team to resolve complaints.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Minimum education required: JD degree from accredited, top-tier law school.
Minimum experience required:
Five or more years practice with an established law firm.
Proficient legal experience in construction and commercial real estate.
Experience with corporate governance issues and corporate secretarial duties.
Experience with commercial real estate transactions, including leases, purchase and sale agreements, loan documents, operating agreements, etc.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of statutes and rules and regulations pertaining to businesses.
Proficient understanding of business sensitivities and confidentiality.
