We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Counsel. The ideal candidate will have deep and progressively responsible leadership overseeing a broad range of Legal responsibilities in the automotive industry.
Responsibilities for this job include, but are not limited to:
· Developing and implementing company-wide process and procedures regarding legal best practices, supporting two US office locations
· Managing legal risk by anticipating exposure and implementing or expanding preventive measures to ensure compliance and avoid penalties and/or liabilities
· Working collaboratively with our HQ office overseas to provide excellent, practical legal advice
· Coordinating all legal reviews for discussions with outside counsel on a variety of business and operations topics; these topics may include, but are not limited to vehicle and autonomous regulatory compliance, marketing, data privacy, state by state franchise laws, after sales, intellectual property, and a wide range of other automotive topics
· Supporting all internal departments on specific projects, issues, materials, tasks and initiatives
· Reviewing and developing contracts and other organizational legal documents and work with outside legal counsel as needed
· Providing support on special projects as the need arises
· Representing the company in business litigation or similar proceedings
· Provides legal opinions, legal interpretations, and recommendations for the purpose of ensuring the company maintains compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as international compliance relating to China, India and the US
· Import/export compliance for hardware, software, licensing, etc….
· Training on information management
· Oversees related budget
Education and Experience
· Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an ABA accredited law school
· Active member in good standing of a US State Bar and meets the eligibility requirements under the California and Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct to provide legal services in California and Michigan
· 10+ years progressive Automotive Legal leadership (State General Counsel level for at least 7years) either as an in-house counsel or with a reputable law firm
· Strong understanding of state and federal laws
· Experience in researching copyright, trademark and patents
· Experience in ethics & compliance risk management.
· Computer skills and knowledge of relevant software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc…)

· Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time

Job Type: Full-time
Experience:
researching copyright, trademark and patents: 3 years (Preferred)
progressive Automotive Legal leadership: 10 years (Preferred)
