SENIOR ASSISTANT GENERAL COUNSEL (JOB ID: 6028)
Summary
Under minimal supervision, is responsible for assisting the General Counsel in representing Denver Health’s legal interests and maintaining its operations within the scope established by law. In alignment with Denver Health’s overall business strategy, provides hand-on counsel and representation to the organization, requiring a comprehensive knowledge and expertise in one or more specialized fields of legal practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of revenue and expenditure contracts and leases, including medical equipment leases, software license agreements and grants relating to Denver Health operations, identifying potential legal risks, recommending solutions and facilitating organizational objectives.
2. Collaborate with the Purchasing Department on behalf of Legal to streamline and improve procurement and contract review process while adhering to regulations and Denver Health policies.
3. Supervise the Legal Contract Administrator in collaboration with the Legal Administrative Director to develop new processes for Legal contact review.
4. Provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of health law matters including day-to-day legal matters with a heavy emphasis on employment, HR, and labor law
5. Draft and review policies and procedures and confirm compliance with federal, State, and local laws. Assist the General Counsel with other matters as they arise.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
1. Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. degree required.
Experience
1. A minimum of 8 years’ experience practicing as an attorney with an emphasis in contract negotiations, including equipment leases and purchase agreements required.
2. Experience in software licensing agreements preferred.
3. Experience in health law preferred.
4. Experience with implementation and management of an electronic contract management system preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to review and negotiate contracts involving medical equipment, research activities, grants, IT software, and legal/commercial terms.
2. Ability to document complex contractual arrangements with attention to detail.
3. Knowledge of procurement process and experience working with purchasing teams.
4. Excellent written and verbal skills.
5. Ability to collaborate with multiple departments to improve processes related to contract management.
Computers and Technology
1. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration
1. Colorado State Bar required.
